And the winner is … Northern Palawan!!!

ROUGH DRAFT!!! We’re in China and we think WordPress is blocked but I’ll.try to post this to see what happens.

Forget about Laos, the air is too smoky. Forget about Thailand (unless you’re on your honeymoon), there’s too many Australians (and tourists in general). The best place we found in southeast Asia was the northern portion of the island Palawan in the Philippines. The main town in the north, El Nido, was hailed by CNN as the best beach in the Philippines in 2012.

Our resort owner remarked how much different the tourists are this season. To us however, El Nido still seems like a typical backpacker ghetto that has started to become invaded by people with money.

Unfortunately, unbeknownst to most people, El Nido was developed prior to the implementation of laws regulating waste water, so the hotels and resorts dump all their sewage into the ocean. Way to do your homework CNN. Great reporting, as usual.

That said, our favorite place in southeast Asia can be found several kilometers south of El Nido in Corong Corong. And the bay should contain far less feces since all waste water, including water from the shower, is required to go into a septic tank in Corong Corong!

Thank God, who would want to ruin this bay? This was our first sunset in Corong Corong, but we had already fallen in love with it within two minutes of arriving there.

Regardless of whether you stay in El Nido or Corong Corong, both places serve as great starting points to explore the surrounding islands, which we did several days.

And without further ado.

Sunset on our third night

Fourth night’s sunset (at a restaurant in El Nido which doesn’t have great sunsets)

On our last night, we were a little sad our sunset was a little colorless. We took our farewell photos and prepared to say goodbye.

Then started to happen

Finally we had to say goodnight and goodbye.

On April 11th we left Corong Corong and took a HORRIBLE bus ride to Puerto Princesa. We stayed one night there, and currently I’m in the airport in Manila during a layover waiting to fly to China. Please note we went back to the casino today, and I almost tripled my money within the first few minutes.

Lastly, all great families vacation together. The Rockefellers had Kykuit; the Bush family has Kennebunkport; the Kennedys have Cape Cod; the Shams have Puerto Vallarta; the Clintons have … the Clintons have …. well, I had grand plans to have built a family compound where we could all ‘winter.’

Obviously this would be a tear-down.
But Uncle Greg says he prefers Arizona, so I guess that’s the end of that dream. Arizona?
